Reminder: You’re Invited to Our Summer Social!

Can you believe we’re at the end of May already?

As the days get longer and the weather (hopefully) starts to play ball, it’s time to take our heads out of the spreadsheets and look toward something a little more refreshing. At Harrison’s Accountancy, we’ve always believed that while the numbers are the foundation of your business, the relationships are the structure that actually holds it all together.

That is why we are sending out this friendly nudge. Our Summer Social is coming up on Saturday, 29th August 2026, and we would love to see you there.

Being a business owner in Bedfordshire, whether you are based in the heart of Biggleswade or operating out of Sandy, Potton, or Shefford, can often feel like a solo marathon. You spend your days juggling VAT deadlines, managing payroll, and ensuring your customers are happy. It is rare that you get a chance to just sit back, grab a cold drink, and chat with people who truly "get" the challenges and triumphs of running a small business.

Why We Host a Summer Social (And Why You Should Come)

Is it just about the drinks and the food? Well, mostly, but there’s a bigger picture too.

Running a firm like Harrison’s Accountancy gives us a unique vantage point. We see the hard work you put in every single day. We see the late-night emails and the meticulous record-keeping. But we also know that "all work and no play" isn't just a cliché, it’s a recipe for burnout.

Our Summer Social is designed to be the antithesis of a stuffy corporate networking event. There are no name badges, no "elevator pitches," and absolutely no PowerPoint presentations. Instead, it’s a chance for our clients, partners, and local friends to gather in a relaxed environment.

If you’ve been feeling the pressure of the recent tax year-end or the various payroll changes from April 2026, consider this your official permission slip to take an afternoon off.

The "No Tax Talk" Rule (With One Small Exception)

We promise to keep the shop talk to an absolute minimum.

When you see Dan or any of the team at the social, feel free to talk about your holiday plans, the local football results, or the best places for walks near Biggleswade. We want to know how you are doing, not just how your cash flow is looking.

However, as accountants, we can’t help but mention one little thing. Did you know that HMRC actually has a "party tax" rule that works in your favour?

If you are a limited company director, you might be able to claim the cost of annual social functions (like a summer party or a Christmas do) as a tax-exempt benefit. As long as the event is open to all employees and the total cost per head doesn't exceed £150 (including VAT) for the year, it’s generally a tax-free perk.

So, if our social inspires you to host your own little get-together for your team later this summer, remember that the taxman actually encourages a bit of fun, provided you stay within the limits! But that’s enough of that. Let’s get back to the social at hand.

Event Details: Save the Date

Mark your calendars for Saturday, 29th August 2026.

We’ve chosen a local venue that captures the best of the Bedfordshire summer vibe. Biggleswade Rugby & Squash Club is a great local spot and easy to get to for those coming from across the county.

  • When: Saturday, 29th August 2026
  • Time: 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Where: Biggleswade Rugby & Squash Club
  • Vibe: Casual, friendly, and strictly relaxed.

Whether you’ve been with Harrison’s Accountancy for a decade or you’ve only recently joined us for our accountancy services, you are more than welcome. It’s also a great opportunity to meet other local business owners in an environment where you aren't trying to sell to one each other. You’d be surprised how many great collaborations start over a plate of local catering!

The Importance of the Local Business Community

Harrison's isn't just a service provider; we are part of the Bedfordshire fabric.

We take huge pride in supporting the local economy. From the shops in Sandy to the tradespeople in Potton and the tech startups in Shefford, the diversity of business in our area is incredible. Events like this help strengthen that local network.

When businesses talk to one another, the whole community benefits. You might find a new supplier, a new mentor, or simply a new friend who lives just a few miles down the road. Supporting one another is what makes the Biggleswade business scene so resilient.

Building a Relationship Beyond the Balance Sheet

Why do we put so much effort into these socials?

In the digital age, it is very easy to become a "virtual" business. You can file your accounts through Xero, chat with us on Zoom, and manage your payment methods online without ever stepping foot in an office. While that efficiency is great, it can feel a bit transactional.

We want to be more than just the people who tell you how much Corporation Tax you owe. We want to be your partners in growth. Understanding the person behind the business, their goals, their family, and what makes them tick, helps us provide much better advice. A social setting is the perfect place for that kind of connection to happen.

How to RSVP

Space is limited, so please let us know if you can make it!

To ensure we have enough refreshments for everyone, we do need you to RSVP. If you haven't already replied to the email invitation sent out last week, you can do so by:

  1. Replying directly to our latest newsletter.
  2. Heading over to our contact page and dropping us a quick message.
  3. Giving the office a call to let us know how many of your team will be attending.

We want to make sure the afternoon is as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so if you have any specific dietary requirements, please don't hesitate to let us know when you RSVP.

What to Expect on the Day

Expect a warm welcome and zero pressure.

If you are a bit of an introvert (which many business owners are!), don't worry. This isn't a "forced fun" event. There are no ice-breaker games or awkward group activities. It’s simply a space for you to come and go as you please.

You’ll find the Harrison’s team milling around, ready for a chat. We’ll have a selection of drinks, bouncy castles for the kids, ice cream, and Holy Smoke street food as a little teaser of what’s in store. It’s our way of saying thank you for your continued trust in us.

Can't Make It? No Problem!

We know late August can still be a busy time for many sectors.

If you can’t make it on the 29th, don’t worry: we won't hold it against you! We’ll be sharing some highlights and photos on our blog and social media channels shortly after the event. We also have plenty of other ways to connect throughout the year. You can always book a call with us if you need to catch up on anything specific regarding your accounts.

However, if your schedule allows, we highly recommend taking a break. Think of it as an investment in your mental well-being. A few hours of sunshine and good conversation can do wonders for your productivity afterwards.

A Quick Note on the "Boring Stuff"

Because we are accountants, after all…

While we’re focusing on the social, we should remind you that our usual terms and conditions and privacy policy apply to any communications regarding our events. We also use cookies on our site to help you navigate our RSVP forms more easily.

Biggleswade Rugby & Squash Club is the place to be, so make sure to RSVP by the end of this week. Let’s make this Summer Social the best one yet!
