Happy Easter! (Plus Our Bank Holiday Hours)

Happy Easter! (Plus Our Bank Holiday Hours)

It finally feels like Spring is in the air, doesn't it? The days are getting longer, the daffodils are poking their heads out, and, most importantly for many of us, there’s a long weekend on the horizon.

With Easter just around the corner, I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very happy break and share some updates from the Harrison's Accountancy office. This year, the timing is a bit unique. Good Friday falls on April 3rd, and Easter Monday lands on April 6th, 2026.

If those dates look familiar to you, it’s probably because April 6th isn’t just a bank holiday this year; it’s also the first day of the new 2026/27 tax year. It’s a bit of a double-whammy of a weekend, marking both a time for rest and a significant "reset" button for your business finances.

When We’re Taking a Breather: Our Holiday Hours

Before we get into the chocolate eggs and the "Spring cleaning" tips, let’s get the practical stuff out of the way. We want to make sure you know exactly when we’ll be here to help and when our team will be off enjoying their own roast dinners.

Our office hours for the Easter period will be:

  • Thursday, April 2nd: Open as usual (7:30 AM – 4:30 PM)
  • Good Friday, April 3rd: Closed
  • Saturday, April 4th: Closed
  • Easter Sunday, April 5th: Closed
  • Easter Monday, April 6th: Closed
  • Tuesday, April 7th: Open as usual 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM)

If you have anything urgent, especially with the tax year-end crossing over the weekend, please do try to get in touch with us by Wednesday or Thursday morning. We’ll be hitting the ground running on Tuesday the 7th, refreshed and ready to tackle the new tax year with you.

Why You (Yes, You!) Need to Switch Off

I know what it’s like. When you run your own business, the "off" switch is often buried under a pile of invoices, emails, and "just one more thing" tasks. But if there was ever a time to actually step away from the laptop, it’s a four-day bank holiday weekend.

Burnout is a very real thing for business owners. We spend so much time looking after our clients, our employees, and our cash flow that we often forget to look after the person running the whole show.

Taking a proper break isn’t just about being lazy; it’s about cognitive recovery. Research shows that stepping away from work-related stress allows your brain to reset, often leading to better problem-solving skills and a fresh perspective when you return.

So, here is my challenge to you: Try to leave the work emails alone from Friday morning until Tuesday. The world won't end, the taxman can wait until Tuesday, and your business will actually benefit from you being well-rested. Spend time with the family, go for a long walk, or just eat way too much chocolate. You’ve earned it.

The "Other" Spring Cleaning: Tidying Your Business

While most people associate Spring cleaning with dusting behind the radiator or finally clearing out the garage, it’s also the perfect time to give your business a bit of a "financial and digital" scrub.

Since the 2026/27 tax year starts right as we come back from the break, using a little bit of time this week to tidy up can save you hours of headaches later in the year. Here are a few ways you can "Spring clean" your business:

1. Digital Declutter

Is your desktop covered in "Final_Final_v2" PDF files? Is your "Downloads" folder a graveyard of old bank statements? Spend an hour tidying your digital workspace. Move files into clear folders, delete what you don't need, and ensure your backups are running correctly. A clear screen often leads to a clear mind.

2. Review Your Subscriptions

We see it all the time in bookkeeping. A business is paying £15 a month for a software tool they haven't logged into since 2024. Take a look at your bank statements. If you see a recurring payment for something you don't use, cancel it. It’s essentially free money back in your pocket.

3. Clear the Physical Desk

If you’re still holding onto paper receipts from six months ago, now is the time to digitise them. Using tools like Dext or Apron makes this a breeze. Clear the physical clutter off your desk so that when you sit down on Tuesday, April 7th, you’re starting with a fresh, clean slate.

Stepping Into the New Tax Year

As I mentioned, Easter Monday coincides with the start of the new tax year. This is a big moment for every UK business owner. It’s the perfect time to look at your management accounts and ask yourself: "Did last year go the way I wanted it to?"

If the answer is "no," or even "it was okay, but could be better," then let’s make a plan. Starting the new tax year with organized books and a clear strategy for your self-assessment is the best gift you can give your future self.

We love helping businesses transition from "surviving" to "thriving." Whether you need help with company formation for a new venture or you just want someone to take the stress of bookkeeping off your plate, we’re here to help.

A Note on Easter Traditions (and Chocolate)

At Harrison's Accountancy, we’re a friendly bunch, and we don't take ourselves too seriously. We’ve had a few debates in the office this week about the best Easter treat. Is it the classic hollow egg? The hot cross bun (toasted with plenty of butter, obviously)? Or those tiny sugar-coated chocolate eggs that seem to disappear in seconds?

Whatever your preference, we hope your weekend is full of them.

Final Thoughts

We feel very lucky to work with such a fantastic range of clients, from local tradespeople to growing tech firms. Your hard work keeps the wheels of the economy turning, and you deserve this upcoming break more than anyone.

Remember, the office will be closed from Friday, April 3rd through Monday, April 6th. We will respond to all emails and voicemails as quickly as possible when we return on Tuesday.
